Luz visible: En la zona que pertenece a las encías se aprecian trazos del dibujo subyacente por la transparencia de las capas aplicadas.

Reflectografía infrarroja: El trazo del dibujo es seguro y conciso. Utiliza un pincel muy fino que le ayuda a imitar las calidades del pelaje del perro. Podemos observar como la encía aparece marcada y sombreado el paladar.

Radiografía: Se aprecia una modificación en la composición de las encías y de la dentadura, apareciendo aquí una línea más de dientes, lo que evidencia una corrección de la figura. En la zona del pelaje se observan ligeras incisiones que luego rellena para simular el pelaje.

Cartón Preparatorio: Observamos en el dibujo los distintos trazos que van construyendo la boca del perro hasta conseguir una composición definitiva. Se aprecian las líneas que delimitaban los colmillos superiores que serán eliminados en la pintura final.

Visible light: Lines from the underdrawing are visible in the area of the gums due to the transparency of the paint layers.

Infrared reflectography: The line of the drawing is steady and concise. Dix used a very thin brush that helped him imitate the qualities of dog’s fur. The gums are outlined and the palate is cross-hatched.

X-radiography: There is a change of composition in the gums and teeth. An extra set of teeth appears in the X-ray, bearing witness to the correction of the canine figure. In the fur area there are slight carvings which he later filled to simulate hair.

Preparatory sketch: It is possible to observe the lines that shape the dog’s mouth into a final composition. The upper fangs are clearly visible, although they were neither traced nor drawn or painted into the final picture.
